The Four Rules of Holiday Style and Gifting According to Alexa Chung

Publicado: 2016-12-24

Be honest, at some point in your life you’ve wanted to dress like Alexa Chung. Whether it was the spectacularly quirky Prada number she wore to the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards or the slim jeans and worn-in tees she favors in everyday life, the British host, model, and frequent collaborator with fashion brands always manages to create an exciting outfit.

At AG’s holiday dinner, hosted in collaboration with the HeForShe initiative, Chung was sporting a metallic gold HVN dress by Harley Viera-Newton and berry lipstick—exactly the sort of nonchalantly cool look of many girls’ holiday style dreams. Despite her insistence that she actually doesn’t attend that many holiday fetes, Chung had a few style tips that will take you through the holidays and beyond.See more at:evening dresses online

1. Dress codes are meant to be broken.

“I knew tonight was a denim party, so it appealed to me to be annoying and wear metallics, whereas if you told me it was a cocktail function, I would have been in denim. I’m very annoyingly contrarian. It’s the quickest way to get noticed,” Chung said, before exclaiming with a laugh. “I’m basically peacocking!”

2. Don’t be afraid to phone a friend for a last-minute party look.

When it came time to dress for the AG dinner she was cohosting, Chung insisted she had nothing to wear. “I looked in my closet and thought, ‘Fuck, I don’t have anything to wear tonight, so I texted Harley [Viera-Newton] and said, ‘Oy, give me one of your dresses,’ and she duly sent one over on Uber messenger and the guy got lost and finally he arrived. This is the product of that.”

3. Pack as many “illogical shoes” as you can.

As a person who lives between London and New York—and travels internationally all year round—Chung does a lot of packing. “I was thinking the other day that the only person I know that travels more than me is Derek Blasberg, and yet I still haven’t mastered the art of the pack,” she admitted. “I think it has something to do with the fact that I never unpack, so I just inherit the stuff that’s in there from last time, and then pile in more illogical shoes and then the next thing I know, I’ve got nothing to wear to the AG holiday party! I’m very, very fortunate that I have two cities that I’ve adopted [as my home], but it’s a fucking nightmare to keep a pair of socks together.” No matter, enough pairs of fun, glamorous, and even illogical shoes will distract from the mismatched-sock issue, and quick.

4. The best gift is one with social impact.

“I have a very fortunate life, and it’s very easy to bury one’s head in the sand and just be like, ‘What issues?’ but the closer you look the more crazy it gets. Currently I’m a bit scared about the world and the way things are going politically,” Chung said, noting that the dinner was equipped with HeForShe donation boxes. “If ever there’s been a moment to safeguard women’s issues that encompass everything from health to education, not just in America but globally, this is it.”Read more at:http://www.marieaustralia.com/bridesmaid-dresses
