Fashion: Inspired by emotions

Publicado: 2016-05-31

What did you want to become when you grew up?

"I wanted to become a florist. I wanted to be one of the girls working behind the counter at the flower shops I visited with my mother. I still get that feeling when I go to florists today.!

Where do you seek inspiration?

"I'm inspired by my environment and the currents that run through my life. I used to work a lot with inspiration from family and from Icelandic nature but recently I have been inspired by emotions and changes to my life. It's good to work with how you feel at each moment, it's the most honest way."

Which materials do you prefer working with?See more at:http://www.marieaustralia.com/evening-dresses

"I love doing prints. Viscose-jersey materials with my own prints on them. I always think about the prints first and then I visualise the cuts around them."

Is it difficult working in fashion design in Iceland with such a small market?

Although I don't live in Iceland anymore I mostly work there and leaving was hard. The market is hard anywhere in the world but I'm doing well, Helicopter is being sold in four countries.

Which designers/artsits do you look up to?

"Bernhard Wilhelm and Henrik Vibskov have always been my favourites. The designers that run Kiosk with me on Laugavegur in Reykjavik are also the cream of the crop."

What item of clothing would you never wear in public?

"Crocs. "

What's your favourite food?

"I have no idea, I love everything, I love food."

Your favourite activities apart from working?

"Ballet, mountain hikes, skiing and horse riding, and being outside in good weather, reading, drinking beer with my friends, laughing. And I'm also fanatical about cleaning. I actually enjoy it, at least in my own apartment."Read more at:formal dresses online
